The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET)
The ARPANET was developed by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) which is part of The United States Department of Defence. ARPANET was the first operational packet switching network. As such it was the predecessor of the global Internet, also known as the World Wide Web.
